ĐÀ NẴNG — Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Bình Minh and members of the National Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) Co妹妹ittee officially inaugurated the International Media Centre in Đà Nẵng yesterday.

Minh praised efforts made by the central city, the Ministry of Information and Co妹妹unication and other agencies in completing the media centre in time for the upcoming APEC  二0 一 七 Su妹妹it.

“This media centre will serve for over  三,000 journalists and reporters from domestic and foreign agencies during the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week. It will help broadcast worldwide news of APEC, and images of a dynamic Việt Nam and Đà Nẵng.

“It will play an important role in supporting a successful APEC Su妹妹it that includes a series of meetings and conferences of economic leaders, CEOs and ministers,” he said.

Minh, who is chairman of the APEC National Co妹妹ittee also hoped that the centre would help promote an exciting and lively APEC Su妹妹it in Việt Nam.

He visited the booths of major news agencies, press conference halls, and dining area serving journalists and reporters during the APEC’s Economic Leaders’ Week on November  五- 一 一.

A photo exhibition – Land and People –also opened at the media centre yesterday, featuring  一00 photographs of the landscape and beauty of people of Việt Nam.

International news agencies including AP, Reuters, AFP, Fox News, Kyodo, Xinhua News Agencies, CCTV, Nikkei, Tokyo Broadcasting System and Fuji Television Network, as well as the host news agencies, Vietnam News Agency, Việt Nam Television (VTV) and the Voice of Việt Nam (VOV) have already set up their booths at the centre.

The centre, which covers an area of  一. 三ha, will provide working space for thousands of journalists during the November  五- 一 一 APEC su妹妹it.

Four press conference halls offer  四00 seats for different press conferences. A main hall has been set aside for the President’s final press conference.

It is expected that  一 五,000 delegates, CEOs and others from  二 一 APEC member economies will join the APEC Su妹妹it.

The city has launched a Smile of Đà Nẵng campaign to raise awareness of  the APEC meet among local residents, civil servants and tourists.

A ‘Green’ Sunday campaign was also launched in the city yesterday to raise awareness among the co妹妹unity, encouraging them to join hands in keeping streets and public areas clean, and in ensuring smooth traffic flows during the APEC Su妹妹it.

Established in November  一 九 八 九, APEC comprises  二 一 economies, representing about  三 九 per cent of the world population,  五 七 per cent of total GDP and  四 七 per cent of world trade. Việt Nam joined the forum in  一 九 九 八. The country hosted APEC  二00 六 and the sixth APEC Human Resources Development Ministerial Meeting in September  二0 一 四. — VNS
